Feeling isolated. Depression is already a hard burden to bear. Why does an overwhelming feeling of isolation accompany it in my case? The feeling of a loss of joy in connecting with people. It came slowly as more than two decades of dealing with depression/anxiety wore on. Aging also seems to make it worse as friends you know pass away with advancing age.

It’s a hard word to admit to. One person that seems to bring it up in her talks is the CEO of MIASA, the mental health NGO I frequent. She gave a TED talk recently where she talked about going down a dark pit and recovering from the experience. Once again, I heard her use the word “isolated”. That inspired me to write this post.
